Great pics and writeup here from Shane Perez of our recent rooftopping shenanigans on one of my favorite buildings in New York City.
There's something about standing on the very, very top of a structure - whether a building, bridge, monument, or disused World's Fair amusement ride - that I really love. It's so different, and so much more rewarding than simply getting to a high floor, or even out on a terrace. You feel almost like a bird - unobstructed in the open air, being able to take in everything for miles around just by turning 360 degrees. I had made it on to the 26th floor observation deck of this particular landmark a few years previous, but never felt quite at peace with the tower until that night.
